Today is the BIG World Cup Foosball match between USA and Deutschland in Brazil!  It is especially big for me as I live both in Loveland, Colorado and Berlin, Germany.  As a Life Coach I couldn’t help but reflect upon my own personality and the values of both countries that make up who I am.  I’m definitely an American “out-of-the-box-thinker.”  I find German directness refreshing and more suitable to my personality as I hate doubletalk.  Living in Germany along with age has softened my American attitude of culture superiority as I have morphed from a more restricted religious thinking and set of beliefs to a less conservative more spiritual openness.  I have learned hands-on about individual tolerance and embracing diversity.  My journey is what has made me the great Life Coach that I am.  Good Luck to both USA and Deutschland!  I’ll be watching!

It is now 2014 mid January!  How are you doing on your New Years Resolutions?

Are you repeating the same process of running out of steam like years past?  If not, what are you doing different!

2013 taught me so much about approaching goal setting from the inside out and the role my values play in the process. I feel like a new person full of so much momentum for my 2014 goals of growing and developing my business and myself. The thing I’m doing different this year is working with my fears rather than allowing my fears to take charge through my emotions and drive me to anxiety overload. I’m taking time each day where I give my emotions time to release. It’s like an emotional meditation but rather than quieting the mind I allow myself to feel what ever I feel throughout my whole body. I cry, laugh, or whatever creatively surfaces. When the allotted time is up, I pull myself together, breath, ground myself and get back to my day. I also do meditate to quiet the mind. I guess I am doing a lot more of self recognition through these types of actions. So far I am seeing progress!

As I sit here contemplating that in a matter of hours 2013 will fade allowing for 2014 to take over the now-moment, and savour the celebration of the risked I’ve taken and mountains I’ve conquered. People are always asking me, “What exactly is coaching?”. The web is full of explanations of similar and purely textual information.  I know that there are people who are overwhelmed with this mass of information and so I thought I would provide visually oriented people with a more illustrative explanation.

I came up with the idea of creating a cartoon about the responses of a therapist, mentor and life coach to the question of how to ride a bike.  I hope you enjoy my cartoon!

Background Information

I originally came up with the cartoon idea during the time I did my coaching certification process.  I participated in a “Client Game” where there was a suggestion of introducing yourself as a life coach through a joke explaining coaching from a lighter side.  This joke idea stuck with as a great way of adding laughter to my website and an alternative explanation of what coaching is.

I conceptualized the comic strip format, Michael Reyman created the final draft of the caricatures, and my web designer Björn Kahlert helped me add the words and the fine tuning for my website.
